NftM #1: Saved by human connection
In this first edition of Notes from the metro, you'll read about finding comfort in reconnecting with yourself and others, morning rituals, and listen to cool music and gripping podcasts.
Hi,
I hope you're doing well and staying safe, wherever you are.
This is Cecilia from Notes from the metro, a newsletter created to bring a healthy dose of inspiration every Monday.
In this first edition, I'm sharing a few interesting reads about the importance of connection with yourself and others, as well as cool music and podcasts.
1. As these times of adversity show us, human connection is crucial to our overcoming it. After the death of his son, Nick Cave found some of that connection with his fans.
2. Reading will not just help you disconnect, but also to reconnect with your voice and your imagination.
3. Las Vegas' band The Killers released a new song, titled 'Caution,' on 12 March.
4. Fan of engaging storytelling, dystopias that feel a bit too close to home, and Rami Malek? Then the podcast Blackout is for you.
5. If you've ever been on the internet before, you've probably read about journaling and its benefits on mental health. But how exactly do you go about it? Here's one way.
5 things I do first thing in the morning
1. Look up the meaning of my dreams. Sometimes I dream of flooded buildings, water consuming everything in its wake. I run from it, sometimes alone, sometimes in company, but I am never afraid.
2. Stretch. The muscles need to move to run from the clutches of sleep. It doesn't always work, though. Sleep still crawls under my skin hours way into the waking hours, slowing me down.
3. Drink coffee in the balcony. Sometimes that's all it takes to remember there is life outside the walls of this mind. On the street below, people go about their day under the morning sun, each mind a universe scrambling for balance.
4. Play videos in the background while making breakfast. Another human voice talking, laughing, as if there was someone in my apartment, making me feel less afraid of the voices in my head that keep asking me to talk back to them.
5. Avoid checking my email. Everybody wants a piece of me—a reply, a click, a sale. I have so little of myself to give in the mornings, still haunted by sleep and overwhelmed with the demands of the day ahead, that I do my best to not wear myself out before I'm out of bed.
